Ancient Greece Part Five
I decided to read, learn and write about Ancient Greece because its a very interesting period where the foundation of Democracy, Colonialism and the Mythical Odyssey. Ancient Greece is a very interesting place where writing was developed, temple’s philosophy and advanced government. The Ancient Greeks were on of the most and first advanced civilizations in ancient history and was one of the strongest ancient sea powers. Their religion impacted the world for the next 4.5 thousand years and even influenced Christianity.
This part of my writing on Ancient Greece Includes Mythology and Heroes.
The Ancient Greeks had a period of history called the Age of Heroes where their cities were founded by Heroes who were children of the gods. The heroes included Hercules, Cadmus and Achilles. The biggest heroes became worshiped, and their stories were shared long with people in the world.
The Hero named Hercules was adopted into Roman Mythology as well. He is known in Greek Mythology through the Twelve Labors and the Olympiad. The hero Heracles comes from ancient Neolithic hunting tribes. There is no tomb of Hercules, unlike other Greek heroes and he was labeled as both a hero and a god in Greek Mythology. Historians consider him to be roughly based on a single person or a few people.
The Ancient Greek city of Thebes was founded by a Phoecician hero named Cadmus. Cadmus was the son of the Phoecians king and his siter was taken by the gods. He founded a city where she lay and killed a dragon whose teeth created a center of armed and fierce warriors that created the foundation of Thebes mythology. In Greek history and mythology, Cadmus brought the Alphabet to Greece.
The final hero I will mention is Achilles, the hero that won the Trojan War. Achilles was practically invisible, however had an issue with the Achilles tendon in his heel which was named after him. He was killed by a fatal wound to the heel. Achilles had immortality except on his ankle because his mother held him by his ankle and dipped him in the river of the gods which gave him immortality everywhere else. He fought on the side of the Greeks in the Trojan War, however he worked well with them.
The Greek Heroes of antiquity each had their unique story and what made them unique. Hercules was part god, Cadmus founded Thebes and Achilles helped win the Trojan war and was invincible except on his ankle. The Greek heroes were part of there religion, military, culture and mythology which brought a unique tradition to Greece that carried over to the Romans.
