Roman Soldier Drawing : Not finished

Vietnam War -Part 6

The Vietnam war was an interesting period that has interesting pieces with the war vs hippies and an antiwar movement. The Vietnam War book was requested by my cousin as it was an interesting period and the start of the war against the enemy. The Vietnam War was one of the longest wars in history, and one of the few that they lost with the United States being a rare country that has a plus 90%-win rate in wars. This is another piece of writing on first person sources!

Document #122 Doc 1 by Westmoreland – memo

The government wrote that “470,000 men ceiling because of adverse piaster impact and the realities of service capabilities, but subsequent reassessment of the situation had indicated clearly to him that the program 4 force, although, enabling U.S force to gain the initiative did not “permit sustained operations of the scope and intensity required to avoid an unreasonably protracted war. ““(Sheehan 568.)” This analysis showed that Lyndon B Johnson – realized that they could increase the max number of the arm forces from the previous ceiling of 470,000 men up to 555,000 men. This was necessary because of the extremely protracted and expanded war! They suggested that the Piaster impact and the realities of the service capabilities reassessment of the situation indicated that the program 4 force be expanded and that they gain the initiative as well as increase the intensity of a protracted war.  They needed a 6-month extension of the forces / extension and deal. The analysis stated that the revolutionary development expanded its efforts into an optimum force to eliminate the Viet Cong and the Chinese Communists- they expanded the church and the military in the enemy’s biggest province of Quang Ngai Province. The military did the study and realized that 555,000 men was too many men in northern Vietnam and the number needed to be immediately reassessed!

Document #133 Westmoreland Cable to Joint Chiefs on Troop Needs

The second document was the task force requirement group which was created on March 28th of Marches COMUSMACV command about the restrictive group program #4. The program included 38 thousand men in five battalions’ equivalents in the restrictive groups in program #4. The task management group included the JCS on 9 March 1967 which included 38 thousand less spaces than needed for the tradeoff forces. The Mavs operational requirement included the CLNPAC’s eyes which increased the cap to 479,000 men from 479,000 men which greatly increased casualties. The DMZ- Highland Border Region demanded the responsibility of an even higher number of 678,248 men which was an additional increase of 199,017 men and the Corps tactical zone included a 15-mile radius of the coast’s divisions which possessed the capability of being constantly active to establish and maintain.

They also concluded that the security made by GVN was controlled in the south and that the DMZ’s line included tactical responsibility for the Marine Corps units. They also included the population and the food resources which were part of the operation and the food farming area. The Quang Ngai obliviated – the necessities - and the food producing area. The Quang Ngai city was a key tactical area for the northern route and the DC divisions areas which included the CTZ – a tactical control military unit.  The Communists and the Viet Cong continued operating totally unchecked in the Enemy province of Ngai even after bombing and attacking the province. They remained in heavily populated regions that were heavily offensive and defensive. The United States priority task was to counter this primary invasion.

Document # 124 / # 3 Joint Chiefs April 20 report to McNamara on Troop Needs

The development of the Vietcong and NVA forces included a degree of diversion from the 3 CTZ American and south Vietnamese force. The greater success of the US’s efforts was realized by the desired NVN unfavorable degree of success and there highly effective operation which continued unabated.  The United States sent additional forces- which was sufficient which deployed into the South China Sea and the Gulf of Tonkin which included a FY 1968 bombing force that was devastating against the Vietcong the NVN was highly effective against their forces!

Analysis of Documents:

The Documents stated that the Northern Vietnamese, Chinese Communists and NVA forces was countered by the CTZ – American Unit which was one of the top Special Forces units for the Americans- it was special and highly effective! The FY 1968 flying fighter unit was one of the most highly effective units of all time destroying Viet Cong! Under Lyndon B. Johnson’s – end of leadership – he increased the cap of the American’s military in Vietnam from 470,000-479,000 and then to 555,000 then to even higher to 675,000 men! The military reassessed the troop numbers and stated that the 555,000 number was way too high and was a major problem- it also was a major issue and could cause high amounts of casualties! The number needed to be immediately reassessed!

A Battalion unit included over 38,000 men in 5 units and was highly effective in fighting the Vietcong – it was called Program #4!  They suggested that they increase the number of men all the way up to 650,000 and include troops to defend the 15-mile coast of Vietnam from the Chinese communists. It needed constant attention to maintain and needed to be constantly sent to be used to working on. The primary reason to work on the military campaign was to defend the coastline from the communist invasion which was a major problem and could do major damage.
