The Panama Canal Part One

Metaphorical drawing of Area that is written about

I wanted to read about the Panama Canal because it’s my aunt’s dream to take a cruise on the Panama Canal before she dies, and she bought me a book for my 25th Birthday written about it. The Panama Canal is one of the most amazing and important pieces of construction ever built The Panama Canal was built in the early to mid-1500’s, however there was some controversy’s related to the Panama Canal opening it up to enemies or other workers.

The Panama Canal was a strategic risk and benefit for those that controlled it and opened it to risk of attacks but also great ability to move ships and cargoes across the Canal. The Panama Canal was what the New World was supposed to be a route to the east. The Panama Colony that was where the Panama Canal was- was sacked in the mid-16th centuries.

The expeditions and trips that Europeans took and went on, in the late 15-17th centuries, discovered the New World. However, they were meant to discover the East, China – India and Australia for the Silk, Spices, Pottery and other goods which were very profitable to sell/ trade to and in Europe. The Panama Canal was what the original voyages to discover that discovered the New World was supposed to do- open a route to the East.

The Colony that founded the Panama Canal was started in 1513 and was produced very well. The Route was run by black slaves and Indian workers to go across the Panama Isthmus to the Pacific Ocean. They were 190 Spain yards in this group and of course this was a Spanish expedition/colony.

The groups that could build the Panama Canal debated whether to build it or not based on opening it up to enemies or other people that would work against them. It was safer to have an unbroken wall of land between gold and silver of Peru and Spain’s maritime enemies. France and Portugal could raid and attack the land in the 1500’s which was part of the decision and in the 1700’s the Americans were hesitant to build the canal because it might open it up to enemies, but it allowed them to move shipping and other military ships which was good.

The Panama Canal was one of the biggest most important, expensive and profitable colonies in the New World and when the French sacked it they came away with 70,000 pounds of gold. The next colony governor ran a bunch of quick speculative businesses to make a quick amount of money and he was a businessman.
